Supervinen er blindsmagt af Decanter World Wine Awards topprofessionelle testpanel som årets Pomerol og den bedst bedømte højrebredsvin. Glemte vi at nævne udnævnelsen på TOP 50 WINES OF 2023?

Tastingbook, James Suckling, Vinous, The Drinks Business og The Wine Cellar Insider melder sig i hyldestkoret. ALLE er dybt imponerede over Fayat Pomerol 2020, som med sit vildeste topniveau nogensinde byder på helt unik value-for-money.

I Fayats kældre står den verdensberømte winemaker Michel Rolland (kendt for 100-point vinene Angélus & Ausone), der her laver mirakuløs stor value for money i hundedyre Pomerol.

Rolland arbejder med 31 udsøgte parceller, hvor vinstokkene er op til 100 år gamle og kun de mest udsøgte klaser finder vej til slottets topvin. Château Fayats parcellerne ligger i øvrigt tæt op ad Château Trotanoy, der laver verdensberømte rødvine i 1500 kroner-klassen.

Den oprindelige opskrift er ændret i år, hvor 10 % Cabernet Franc giver friskhed til den bløde og sexede Merlot-frugt. Et genialt træk fra Michel Rolland, der har udmøtet sig i de bedste ratings til dato for det historiske slot.

Chateau Fayats Pomerol sejler fed og mørklilla rundt i glasset… I næsen vidunderligt violduftende med komplekse strejf af trøfler, chokolade, sød pibetobak og ristet kaffe, der boltrer sig blandt Merlot-fristelser af blomme, solbær og vilde hindbær. Når først vinen lander på tungen er man ikke et sekund i tvivl om, at det er stor Pomerol… Teksturen er som flydende fløjl og den sexede og smukt detaljerede bærfrugt forener lækker koncentration med nærmest vægtløs finesse, mens tanninerne strammer perfekt til i en luksuriøst krydret og intens skovundsmineralsk finale. Den bedste Pomerol nogensinde fra Château Fayat. Vi er ikke i tvivl… Drik nu, eller gem +15 år fra høståret.

"BEST IN SHOW | THE TOP 50 WINES OF 2023 | Pomerol is such a sought-after appellation that it always seems a particular treat to judge its wines in our competition. Origin alone, of course, doesn’t guarantee success – but when our judges tasted this particular Pomerol, from one of the best balanced of recent Bordeaux vintages, it was obvious that the wine’s achievement met the hopes which cluster around the appellation name. It’s dark black-red in colour, with subdued but compelling scents of warm earth and dark black fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry and damson); a year in oak leaves the subtlest of traces on a wine of this quality. On the palate it is vital, athletic, clearly harvested without any over-ripeness; the tannins are soft and tender; but the wine’s inner concentration and force, together with an acidity which almost seems mineral or iron-like in some way, will give it plenty of cellar legs. A Pomerol which is both classic and contemporary."

“The 2020 Fayat was the most promising vintage that I had encountered from barrel. Now in bottle, it certainly possesses an appealing nose: black cherries, boysenberry, black truffle all vying for attention. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit and fine structure. It eases the brakes on towards the finish in order to retain refinement and freshness, completing yes, the best Fayat for many years."

"One of many wines in this vintage to sport a new label. Refined, elegant and more subtle than many, with delicate floral notes – lilac and peony, a little violet – that spring up between the blueberries and the red and black cherries; a hint of the cedar to come. Plenty of fruit on the dense and compact mid-palate and a pleasing sense of balance and restraint – some of these Pomerols are almost too much, but not here. A super stylish Pomerol that is the best I’ve tasted from Fayat."

“The nose is fresh, floral with some richness and a certain intensity. This is a wine with depth and notes of violets, lilies, tart juicy strawberries and a hint of bright cassis paired with a hint of bright cornflower as well as hints of nutmeg, pepper and sweet spices. The palate is fruity with juiciness and minerality. There is a lightness, airiness in its richness with notes of pulpy blackberry and tangy pulpy plum and small notes of pulpy raspberry combined with hints of cornflower, a hint of fresh cocoa as well as a note of toast. There is smoothness in the richness, good length and good definition.”

"Flowers, truffles and ripe, dark red pit fruit aromatics are all over the place here. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied is silky, polished and fresh with a vibrancy, purity and elegance that makes this by far, the best vintage of Fayat ever produced! This is a simply gorgeous Pomerol. Drink from 2023-2040."

Vinen er fremstillet på 90 % Merlot og 10 % Cabernet Franc, som selekteres fra op til 100 år gamle vinstokke. Clément Fayats fineste parceller ligger eksklusivt placeret tæt på berømte Château Trotanoy, der laver Pomerol i 1500 kroner-klassen.

Efter endt gæring forkæles 80 % af vinen med 12 måneders lagring på de fineste franske barrique-fade, heraf 50% helt nye. De sidste 20 % modner frugtbevarende på æggeformede ler-amphora.

Om Chateau Fayat

Chateau Fayat er kulminationen på en 25-årig lang fusionering af tre vinslotte i Pomerol, Bordeaux, af konstruktionsgiganten og finansmanden Clément Fayat. I 2009 lykkedes det ham at sammenlægge slottene La Commanderie de Mazeyres, Vieux Bourgneuf og Prieurs de la Commanderie til det nu mere passende og simpelt klingende Chateau Fayat.

Nu råder Chateau Fayat over hele 16 hektar beplantet med 80% Merlot og 20% Cabernet Franc, som den verdenskendte ønolog og vinkonsulent Michel Rolland er med til at råde over. De har en produktion på ca. 60.000 flasker om året, hvor 50% bliver fadlagret på nye egetræsfade, mens en tredjedel bliver lagt på ståltank for at bibeholde vinens ungdommelige frugt.
