“... the surprise comes on the palate, full and tasty. "A little gem" comments a taster, a construction in detail, heady and opulent juice, quite sunny, on juicy red fruits. The whole is delicious, but also dense, with a very elegant tannic structure. We already want to come back, it is an accomplished, distinguished wine with good aging potential.”

“Deep at centre; dark; earthy purple at edge; beautifully seductive red fruits; glossy; polished; lovely unctuous fruit; really super; lovely purity; sweet ripe fruit; some new oak to integrate but the fruit seems to be soaking it up; opens up further in the glass; lush fruit here; inky; concentrated; certainly bags of extract; lots to this. Super stuff. Later on there was a satin quality here – super plush overall; evident layers and depth. Brilliant effort.”

“The nose is elegant, racy, intense and offers finesse of the grain, power as well as intensity and deepness. It reveals notes of ripe cassis, crushed blackberry, small notes of black plum associated with fine touches of raspberry, blueberry, small wild berries as well as hints of toasted, camphor, liquorice and Sichuan pepper. The palate is fruity, juicy, elegant, beautifully defined and offers deepness, a beautiful finesse of the grain, a “sense of the place” (terroir), a “well mastered” power as well as an acidulous frame. On the palate this wine expresses notes of juicy/ripe cassis, blackberry, small notes of raspberry associated with small touches of blueberry, plum as well as hints of cocoa, caramelization, cardamone, toasted hazelnut and cornflowers. A persistence on dark chocolate. Tannins are elegant, precise, fine, racy and offer suppleness.”

Even with all of its obvious intensity, the 2019 has terrific freshness and vibrancy. In 2019, the blend is 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon.”

“A glossy hue, dark but showing a little more saturation here and a richer crimson rim. The style on the nose is very modern, the aromatic profile brimming with crushed dried fruits, a little smudged in terms of definition, with a smoky, baked black cherry and chocolate nose. It feels a little purer on the palate, where there is a seam of dark summer fruits, berries and cherries, coated in dark chocolate, but with an energetic lifting structure formed from a band of ripe, velvety tannins and mouthwatering acidity. Lots of ripe grip on the finish, the fruit definition fading again here though, and the length is full of tannin. This vintage has worked well for the Fleur-Cardinale style, as this is a delight.”

Alcohol on the high side at 14,5. One of their best efforts to date. All the work they have done and are doing seems to be rocking in this wine. You think it is finishing before another wave of flavours hits the palate.”

“Always one of the bigger more powerful St Emilions, and this has plenty of estate signature. Excellent presence, it heads downwards, carving out a space for itself and settling in for the long haul. Clear oak character but not overdone, and has the glamour and sense of fun that I love about this property. Clear spice also, sage and rosemary alongside liquorice and black chocolate. This is well handled, definitely a bigger framed wine but delivered with confidence and appeal - you're going to want to try this.”

Backed by fine toasting aroma, mocha and dark chocolate, vanilla and gingerbread. On the palate well concentrated yet elegant with juicy fruit, sweet tannins, excellent depth and length, a wonderful, rich but elegant wine with complexity and class.”

Om Château Fleur Cardinale

Fleur Cardinale er beliggende i den nordøstlige del af St.-Émilion, nær Cotes de Castillon. Slottets vinhistorie går tilbage til 1700-tallet, men med familierne Asseo (1982-2001) og Decoster (2001-nu) er Fleur-Cardinale for alvor trådt i karakter. Decoster-familien opførete allerede i 2002 en splinterny fadkælder (chai), og har ikke set sig tilbage siden. Konsulent er naboen, Jean-Luc Thunevin (Valandraud). Investeringerne er betalt tilbage med flotte ratings, og i siden 2006 har Fleur Cardinale haft status af Grand Cru Classé.
