The 2021 Marquis de Terme is inky, vibrant and super-expressive. Dark fruit, bittersweet chocolate, spice and licorice are all dialed up. A whole range of floral and savory nuances lingers on the close. Readers will find a Margaux endowed with terrific depth as well as character. I am very much looking forward to tasting this from bottle.

The quest for finesse continues here, and the 2021 vintage does not lack refinement. Extraction is moderate, preserving a lovely fruitiness, with tannins that integrate seamlessly. A wine with an appealing profile that, we hope, will set the tone for future vintages.

Good depth of dark currants and baking spices with chili chocolate and dark olives. Tight and fine-grained on the palate, providing nice structure from the nicely chewy tannins. Tight and pretty long.

Decanter

Smells perfumed with curry leaf notes to the aromatic expression, vanilla, cherry, cola and toast. Bold and well formed, slightly more amplified than some of the others in terms of the fruit concentration, ripe blackcurrant and cool blue fruit that carries past the mid palate with fine grained tannins that are a touch fleshy and crushed velvet in texture. Ends a touch mineral and sombre but this has been well made with attention to the fruit maturity and ageing. I like this and has good potential for easy drinking.

Lilacs, chocolate, espresso, plums and black cherry aromas create the perfume. The palate is equal to the aromatics with its layers of creamy, textured, sweet, red fruits, touch of chocolate, cinnamon and espresso finish.

The nose is elegant, precise and reveals concentration with subtlety, some richness with finesse. There are notes of dense/concentrated blackcurrant, blueberry and more slightly crushed red currant combined with delicate hints of violet, blond tobacco and a subtle hint of caramelisation/sweet spice. The palate is fruity and offers gourmandize, minerality, a juicy/acidic structure, fleshiness, and a nice definition/concentration (in balance). On the palate this wine expresses notes of pulpy/juicy boysenberry, crushed blackcurrant and more lightly strawberry combined with touches of racy minerality, blueberry, a subtle hint of liquorice, graphite, a discreet hint of toasted almond. Good length. A nice touch of peony on the finish/persistence. The tannins are tight and racy.

The palate is well balanced with sappy black fruit, fine tannins, well-judged acidity and a sapid finish. This actually punches above my expectations and looks promising. I look forward to re-tasting this in bottle because this is the best wine from the estate I've tasted in many years."
