"96 points. Excellent length and multi-layrered finish. A great 2021" - Markus del Monego MW

World Class Margaux 2.

Almost rich style with freshness, ripe tannins, excellent length and multi-layrered finish. A great 2021

Engaging and decidedly wise in its mixed and compound sensory profile, it recalls fruits, flowers, spices and herbs. China, graphite and juniper berries provide the framework. Full body, dense and dense tannins decidedly well extracted and a finish of excellent taste persistence. Splendid.

A tight, full-bodied Lascombes that shows nice extraction and concentration. A haze of oak spices and espresso on top of the black currants, blackberries, dark olives, graphite and black bean puree. Pretty broad, vertical and structured for the vintage and it needs a few years to unwind.

Deep crimson. Intense blackcurrant, dark plum fruits with cedar/ brambly noes. Velvety smooth with attractive blackcurrant, dark plum, chinotto flavours, fine loose-knit grainy/ al dente textures and underlying vanilla oak. Builds up firm with crunchy fruit notes. Should develop very well. 55% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot, 5% petit verdot. 18 months in 60% new French oak. 13.5% alc

Ah, yes, Lascombes – it is immediately very familiar. One tunes in first to that signature wisteria and mimosa floral element, dried rose petals and parfumier’s violets too. Then we have the complex and, again, rather distinct fruit profile – black and sour cherries, brambles and mulberries, with a hint of grated dark chocolate (here more a spice that a source of sweetness) and liquorice root (similarly). This is cool and soft on the entry, with very refined tannins, the new wine-making facility seemingly taking this to a new level in terms of finesse. Lovely black cracked peppercorns and Asiatic spices bring further interest and detail. Overall, this is very balanced, harmonious and refined. The oak is less prevalent and the chewy grape-skin finish is long and gracious. 92-94+.

The 2021 Lascombes is a dense, plush Margaux, but also not quite as pushed as in the past. That's a good thing. A burst of ink blue/purplish fruit, chocolate, leather, licorice and mocha are front and center. As always, Lascombes is a pretty flamboyant wine, but it is also very nicely done. There is plenty to admire. Tasted two times.

Lascombes 2021 is still as ripe and pronounced as ever. Compared to the other wineries in Margaux, Lascombes demonstrates richer fruity aromas in 2021, with its classic spicy scents of licorice and cinnamon, and the fragrance of mulberry and blackcurrant. The tannins extracted by the gentle R’Pulse method integrate naturally and smoothly into the toasty aromas, emitting some ripe and rich smells from inside out. The tannins on the finish are still powerful, compared to the relatively dried aftertaste in hot vintages, I prefer the gentle expression of the 2021. I am counting the days until Lascombes presents us its unique and impressive "stilt dancing" performance in the future.

The 2021 Château Lascombes is deep ruby/plum-hued and reveals beautiful aromatics of red and black currants, smoked tobacco, graphite, and integrated oak, with a kiss of violet and flowers emerging with air. It's medium-bodied and has a focused, elegant mouthfeel, rock-solid mid-palate depth, and ripe tannins, with its oak and acidity both beautifully integrated. This is one classy, seamless, yet relatively serious Margaux that will benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age and drink brilliantly over the following decade. The blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot, aged 18 months in French oak. Tasted multiple times with consistent notes.

93 Point

Falstaff

Opaque ruby core, purple reflections, subtle brightening on the rim. Dark berries, a touch of figs, hints of nougat and pleasing wood spices on the nose. Juicy palate with good complexity, dark cherry fruit, integrated, ripe tannins and hints of chocolate on the finish. Generous length with great potential to age elegantly.
