Kvaliteten af vinene fra Château de Camensac er steget drastisk gennem de sidste år, efter familien Merlaut overtog slottet.
Den nytænkende og ambitiøse familie er en af de største jordbesiddere i Médoc, og de ejer også højt ansete Ch. Chasse-Spleen og Gruaud-Larose. Vinmarkerne ved Ch. de Camensac ligger lige på grænsen til St-Julien, og betingelserne for vindyrkning er ideelle her, hvilket deres vine til fulde udtrykker.
Der er udelukkende plantet gamle Cabernet Sauvignon og Merlot stokke på de 75 hektar, som familien råder over. To typer jord dominerer her: Fint grus blandet med sand (’’Villafranchian’’) og jord bestående af større sten (’’Gunz gravel’’). På grund af jordbundsforholdene vil vinene ofte have både mineralske toner og en floral karakter. Kombinationen af et gunstigt ’terroir’, hårdt arbejde i kælderen, vilje til at ’vende tingene på hovedet’ og prøve noget nyt, gør, at vinene fra Château de Camensac er af meget høj kvalitet.

"The 2018 de Camensac has retained its attractive aromatics, needing just a little coaxing to reveal blackberry, bilberry, light marine scents and those iris petals that I remarked upon out of barrel. The palate is medium-bodied with good backbone and well-judged acidity. I admire the substance of this de Camensac, and there is wonderful salinity on the finish. This comes recommended and I can see it aging well."
