Robert Parker
Saturated black/purple-colored, with stunning aromatics of blueberries, blackberries, licorice, and iron, this spectacular vintage port is one of the stars of the vintage. Extremely full-bodied, with silky tannin, spectacular concentration and purity, multiple flavor levels, and an evolved, forward personality, this is an exquisite yet precocious 1997 vintage port. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2030.
Wine Enthusiast
This is rather flashy for Taylor, with plenty of upfront appeal to its floral, spicy aromas and gobs of fruit. It's very lush and soft on the palate, almost overloaded with blackberries and plums, then firms up and begins to show that Taylor reserve on the dusty finish.
Stephen Tanzer
Saturated deep ruby. Great minerally aromas of black plum, black cherry, roasted meat and deep spices. Very sweet and very dense, with youthfully backward black fruit, mineral and bitter chocolate flavors. Finishes with wonderfully ripe, sweet tannins and superb persistence and grip. Has the verve most ’97s lack. This may ultimately challenge the great ’94.
Revista Adega, Melhor Vinho
More than 20 years of bottle ageing are now clearly influencing both the aromas and flavours. It still shows high-quality red fruit, alongside notes of dried fruit, cherries in liqueur, tobacco and dried herbs, all balanced by well-textured tannins and refreshing acidity. The finish is rich, smooth and persistent, echoing the flavours of the palate. Alcohol: 20%.

Vinum
A textbook vintage: fruit-driven and beautifully balanced, now reaching its optimal drinking maturity. Aromas of red and dark berries are complemented by hints of incense and liquorice, along with floral notes. On the palate, it is surprisingly rich for a Taylor’s, with a dense and complex structure and an abundance of fruit that still seems almost youthful.
Wine Spectator
Beautiful. A young Port, with very pretty blackberry, violet and cherry character. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, long finish. Very well done.
Jancis Robinson
Excellent colour right out to the rim. Briary, autumnal. Big and bold and fat. Massive alcohol. Tannins creep up. An entirely bigger register than the Graham. Very, very long. Massive.
