Plantede druesorter: 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot
Fadmodning: 16-18 mdr. på 50% nye barriquefade

Dette historiske vinslot, hvor der har været dyrket vin siden 1500-tallet, er opkaldt efter en tidligere ejer, parlamentarikeren Dumas de Fombrauge.

I perioden 1986-1998 var Fombrauge rent faktisk danskejet, men først da den velhavende vinkøbmand Bernard Magrez tog over i 1999, fik vinkvaliteten for alvor et løft. Bernard Magrez, som ejer op imod 40 vinslotte i Bordeaux, har en forkærlighed for at få underpræsterende slotte til at ”performe”.

Samarbejdet med 100-point-ønologen Michel Rolland har været stærkt medvirkende til, at Fombrauge i 2012 blev forfremmet fra Grand Cru til Grand Cru Classé. Rutinemæssig ”grøn høst” er med til at holde høstudbyttet lavt og druekvaliteten høj. Der sorteres druer med hård hånd i vineriet, så kun ca. halvdelen af høsten finder vej til Fombrauges Grand Vin.

A hedonistic bomb offering full-bodied richness and a round, mouth-filling texture, with sweet tannins and remarkable freshness, it's a no-brainer Saint-Emilion that will evolve for two decades. 94-96+"

Still quite straight and lean, not exuberant but I like the style, it's focussed and nicely weighted on the palate giving lots of flavour intensity but keeping lifted and appealing. A nice buy. Tannic but so pure and precise with bite. Easy. Harvest 12-29 September. Yield of 43hl/ha."

This is a wine that can be enjoyed even in its youth, and will remain stable after aging, like a skilled warrior who has trained for years and developed a peaceful character."

It retains satisfying acidity on the finish, with a splash of soy on the aftertaste. Worth seeking out."

"(St Emilion; 90% Merlot; 10% Cabernet Franc; tasted twice, the second time at l’Association des Grands Crus Classés de St Emilion at Dassault). Rich, deep, dark, plump and full with great amplitude and impressive concentration. Black cherry and bramble fruit, a little brioche and oak smoke. Not as much delineation as some but lots of fresh and sapid juiciness towards the finish. Well-made and a success for the vintage. 91-93."

It reveals notes of nutmeg, lily and slight notes of sweet spices associated with touches of crushed raspberry, luscious blackberry, fine hints of blond tobacco as well as a discreet hint of bergamot / infusion and vanilla. . The palate is fruity, balanced and offers minerality, juiciness, an acid structure, tension as well as accuracy. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of juicy/pulpy blackberry, fleshy/juicy raspberry and slight notes of nutmeg associated with touches of maceration, fresh blond tobacco as well as hints of vanilla and toasted almond. Sweetness, delicacy and roundness."
