Historien om det nyslåede 100 point-Margaux-slot starter allerede i 1600-tallet, under navnet Domaine Guilhem. Over de næste 200 år stiger vinens anseelse så vildt, at Baron de Brane i 1830’erne dropper det nuværende Mouton-Rothschild for at købe og lægge navn til Brane-Cantenac (!) 22 år senere får vinen status af 2. Cru Classé.
Brane-Cantenac har været dygtigt drevet af Lurton-familien siden 1925, men det er Henri Lurton, der siden 1992 har løftet Le Grand Vin op i ren verdensklasse. Hyldet af James Lawther MW som et TOP 10 Bordeaux Cru Classé-køb!
Ligesom Le Grand Vin er også Baron de Brane en value af format... bedste andenvin i Bordeaux? Anmelderne mere end antyder det.

It offers fine lift on the nose of almost airy red berry fruit, raspberry confit and rose petals; a light loamy scent emerges with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a fresh opening, and a little angular initially, but it coheres toward the middle, delivering tart red cherries, fine acidity and good delineation toward the pencil-lead-infused finish. This is a fine Deuxième Vin from the estate that should drink well for a decade and more."
